Hearing Aids today come in many different shapes and formats.  How do you choose what is right for you?

The most common form of hearing aids until recently has been the analog hearing aid.  Think of a microphone, amplifier and speaker.  This is basically what an analog hearing aid is.  It makes everything louder and helps people hear a little better this way.

Unfortunately, if someone slams the door or makes a very loud sound, these noises can be very iiritating, sometimes painfully loud.  In addition with analog hearing aids, because you cannot change the prescription inside of the device, these instruments were usually replaced every 3-5 years due to the user's hearing changing with time.

Digital Hearing Aids:

Digital hearing aids are now the preferred choice for most manufacturers and hearing aid users.  The advantages are that the hearing aids can be custom programmed to meet your current needs.  For example, if you hearing decreases next year, you can return to your hearing aid dispensing office and have them take a new hearing test and have them reprogram your hearing aids to match your hearing again.  Or if you wanted them to adjust them so they are more comfortable in a noisy environment or reduce down loud sounds, the practitioners can do this.

.
Thus, patients are happier wearing digital hearing aids, practitioners are also happier because their customers are doing better than in the past.
